Who am I?
So, I wasn't going to post here, but I couldn't resist after seeing elisteran's D&D Character entry. Besides, I haven't so much as written even the slightest bio for myself, and I guess this could work for that purpose.

I Am A: Neutral Good Elf Ranger Mage

Alignment:
Neutral Good characters believe in the power of good above all else. They will work to make the world a better place, and will do whatever is necessary to bring that about, whether it goes for or against whatever is considered 'normal'.

Race:
Elves are the eldest of all races, although they are generally a bit smaller than humans. They are generally well-cultured, artistic, easy-going, and because of their long lives, unconcerned with day-to-day activities that other races frequently concern themselves with. Elves are, effectively, immortal, although they can be killed. After a thousand years or so, they simply pass on to the next plane of existence.

Primary Class:
Rangers are the defenders of nature and the elements. They are in tune with the Earth, and work to keep it safe and healthy.

Secondary Class:
Mages harness the magical energies for their own use. Spells, spell books, and long hours in the library are their loves. While often not physically strong, their mental talents can make up for this.

Deity:
Mielikki is the Neutral Good goddess of the forest and autumn. She is also known as the Lady of the Forest, and is the Patron of Rangers. Her followers are devoted to nature, and believe in the positive and outreaching elements of it. They use light armor, and a variety of weapons suitable for hunting, which they are quite skilled at. Mielikki's symbol is a unicorn head.

Eek. You're breaking your no-posting policy for a quiz result? I have much fear. Now you need actual original content to balance it out, at least... :-)

But it's not just any quiz. It's a rather cool D&D quiz! Besides, that no-posting thing wasn't really a policy per se -- I just didn't think I was ever going to have anything to say here since if I were going to make an attempt to say something profound, I'd want to keep control over my content. (heehee)

I also tend towards thrift when using words, and volumes of original content hide in those lines... For example, the fact that I'd bother to figure out this posting thing for quiz results implies I was impressed by them. The part where I said it was an acceptable substitute for a bio meant that I (at least my night_princess side) identified with them. (And, that previous parenthetical expression implies that I fancy myself a complex person and that I have come up with multiple characters for at least some of my facets.)

I've had this problem ever since elementary school English class. I would turn in essays that were five sentences long because I knew exactly all the thoughts that those few words represented, and I read all the details into each of those words. My English teachers would make a few comments, but they pretty much let me get away with it. In college, I placed out of all but one quarter of English. I suffered badly trying to fill a mere five pages, and then I never wrote another paper ever again. So, I never bothered to develop verbosity skills.

Now, though, I'm trying to get better at explicitly explaining what I thought was intuitively obvious. For example, my best friend of well over a decade asked for advice/permission to have sex with a friend (now an ex-friend). Somehow, when I said, "hire a prostitute -- sex is never free", the listener failed to infer that, if he's not paying in money, there's going to be an emotional cost. (Instead, he managed to infer that he got his permission.) When he came back complaining that his "purely physical" "free" fling turned into an entire night's worth of emotional payback (his fling spent several hours clinging to him and crying after the act), I could only snicker and say, "I told you so." He strenuously objected to that, but I reminded him of my exact words, and he had to admit that I did try to warn him... but I also had to admit that I didn't provide the required five pages of explicit supporting points and examples to support that thesis.

So, I'm trying to get better about being explicit and verbose, but it's not at all easy for me.

*laugh* How about getting better about knowing when somebody's being tongue-in-cheek with you? My comment was really just a gratuitous excuse to claim you should post more. :-)

Also: I don't think you're particularly non-verbose. In fact, I think you often go a long way in the other direction--look at the average length of your asm posts... But while it's possible to be concise and still clear, it's also possible to use a lot of words without focusing them sharply enough for the listener (reader) to recognize what you're driving at.

Also also: I think sex can be essentially free of emotional costs, and I could offer examples to back that up. :-) But I'll grant that it's a tricky proposition.

Claiming that quiz results were worthy of posting just because it's D&D was being absolutely serious? I think not... ;-)

(The post transformed itself later.)

Point. :-)

Maybe I need to get me some quiz results to post, so I can momentarily put aside the dilemma of whether to go friends-only with the Relationship Angst... But my D&D quiz results were not so good--me, a bard and a fighter? I'm having none of that.

Re: non-verbosity. You should see all the stuff I don't end up posting... Obviously, when someone asks for more information (whether intentionally or not), more information can be arranged... ^_^;
